Cub Leader Basic and Leader Specific Training
Basic Leader Training begins with Fast Start and Youth Protection training
and continues through New Leader Essentials, followed by leader-specific training
for each adult's role in the Pack.
New Leaders Essentials is an introductory session that highlights the
values, aims, history, funding and methods of Scouting. It addresses how these
aims and methods are reached in an age-appropriate style within Cub Scouting Boy
Scouting, Varsity Scouting and Venturing. Videos, discussions, and hands-on
reinforcement are presented during the 90-minute training session. All
unit-based volunteers Cub Scout, Boy Scout, Varsity Scout, and Venturing leaders
must take this session.
Leader-Specific Training provides the specialized knowledge a leader
needs to assume a new leadership role. Because each course is designed for a
specific leadership position, the training time varies. Leader Specific Training
has been developed for the following positions and their assistants: Tiger Cub den leaders, Cub Scout
(Wolf and Bear) den leaders, Webelos den leaders, Cubmasters and Pack
committee members.
Cub Scout Leader Outdoor Training
-
Webelos Leaders Outdoor Training - If you are a Webelos Leader,
this is the course
for you. You will learn camping skills, more about the Webelos Program, how to
teach the outdoor-related activity badges, and have a lot of fun.
-
BALOO (Basic Adult Leader Outdoor Orientation)
- This training course is required to take Webelos, Cub Scouts and their
families camping. This training is required for at least one leader who is
the designated Pack Camping coordinator. Packs are encouraged to do a camp out in both the
fall and spring. The training will help the pack provide a positive outdoor
experience within 60 days of joining a Pack. It's a one-day training focusing on
how to plan and put on a camp out and very basic camping skills. It is not a
heavy skills program.
Cub
Scout leaders are considered trained when they have completed:
